Our work on the ground
Since the pandemic was announced in March 2020, we’ve helped to protect thousands of older people in over 20 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. From initiating new emergency COVID-19 projects, to adapting long-running programmes – we have tailored our response to meet the needs older people and their families.
Age International is supporting older people in India right now by:
- Distributing masks and soap, so older people can protect themselves from the virus
- Helping to ensure older people can access the health services they need
- Delivering emergency food parcels and drinking water to older people
- Providing transport for older people to vaccination centres
Donations from this appeal will go to our COVID-19 Emergency Fund and will be spent wherever the need is greatest in our coronavirus response, including our work in India. Any income not spent after twelve months past the end of the appeal may be allocated to another emergency situation that requires our support.

Handwashing facilities in places where hand hygiene is already a struggle.
Training for frontline staff and volunteers to reach the most vulnerable and marginalised older people, working alongside expert medical teams and carers.
Mental health support for older people who are experiencing feelings of isolation and loneliness. We work with psychological health workers to identify older people most at risk and ensure that they receive the help they need.
Inclusive public messaging that is designed specifically to be accessible for older people.
Protection for frontline health workers to lower the risk of transmission to the older people they support.
