In many places around the world, older people are living longer but in poor health due to low quality, inaccessible and ill-equipped health services and a lack of understanding and inclusion of older people's health needs.
In Kenya and Mozambique we're helping to ensure healthcare services are able to understand and address older people's health concerns.
How we're improving geriatric healthcare for older people
We are addressing main drivers of older people’s poor health by tackling:
We are reaching out to the poorest, most vulnerable older people who are often neglected from health programmes. The intersection of age, gender and disabilities leads to poorer wellbeing and functional ability, leading to further exclusion among already excluded older people.
The attention given to diseases that lead to disability and exclusion, such as blindness and dementia, will ensure older people who need access to home based and long-term care are given particular attention.
We are:
Older People’s Associations offer support to members with chronic diseases and disabilities while Older Citizens Monitoring Groups volunteerswill monitor and advocate for more inclusive, effective delivery of health services, and encourage referrals between informal and formal health providers.
