Pam is part of Grandparents United

Like Pam, every month you’re helping older people around the world facing some of life’s toughest challenges to get the vital care, social connection and dignity they need. Read below why Pam decided to join Grandparents United.

“Grandparents United is a great way to connect with the realities older people are facing in low and middle-income countries – and do something about it.

I can see the difference my support is making through the updates I receive. I love it.”

“My name is Pam. I live in the Southeast of England, and I’m a proud grandmother. I have seven grandchildren, and they’re spread across three different countries. We only see them a couple of times a year.

Luckily, we have WhatsApp to keep in touch. A photo, a message, a quick video call—it all helps bridge the gap. But I know that’s not the reality for everyone.”

Separated by more than miles

“I joined Grandparents United because I know what it's like to miss family. But for many older people around the world, it’s not just distance—it’s disaster, conflict, displacement. Some don’t even know where their family are.

I can only imagine the pain of that kind of separation. Not seeing their faces. Not hearing their voices. Wondering if they are alone. It breaks my heart.

But I know that Age International is there to offer immediate and long-term physical, financial and mental support to older people during crises.”

Helping older people is vital

“I also joined Grandparents United because older people don’t get the attention they deserve and are often brushed off by society. With Age International, and through Grandparents United, I can see the difference that as a collective of people we make to older people who don’t have the same access to support that we do in the UK .

Being a donor is my way of standing with older people across the world. Supporting organisations that are helping them find safety and support is important to me.”

Together, the Grandparents United Community makes a real difference to the lives of older people facing some of life’s biggest challenges around the world.
