Jane is financially independent in older life
Jane lives in Malawi with her seven grandchildren. She is a widow who received a small cash grant which she used to buy two ducks and start a small business breeding poultry.
“When I lost my husband, life was tough as an elderly widow. The funds I received through the cash transfer programme helped me to invest in ducks and turkeys”
Independence in older age
Today Jane has more than 40 ducks and four turkeys, having sold some to raise money for farming, food and her living expenses.
Thanks to the cash assistance when she needed it most, Jane now earns enough income to support herself and her grandchildren independently.
She shares;
"Today I can stand on my own as a proud single grandparent.”
