Life-changing support for Mohammed

When Mohammed, 62, fled Sudan in a rush to escape conflict, his wheelchair was damaged and had to be left behind. When he arrived in the refugee camp, he was confined to his shelter and dependent on others for even basic movement.

“I found myself in a total state of dependency… I spent my days waiting for someone to assist me just to move a few feet, feeling invisible and trapped by my own condition.”

A life-changing intervention

Support delivered by Age International partners, HelpAge Ethiopia, helped change things for Mohammed. He received a new wheelchair and a cash grant, enabling him to move independently, access food distribution points and reconnect with people around him.

“Their intervention was life-changing… Today, my life is significantly simpler and filled with a renewed sense of purpose,” he told us.

What had been months of isolation for Mohammed, gave way to renewed mobility, dignity and confidence in daily life.

He shares, “I have been able to access essential food supplies that were previously out of reach. This support was not only a donation; it was a comprehensive effort that addressed my physical, financial, and nutritional needs, effectively ending the period of isolation that had defined my life for so long.”
